It's started where I work already. Whe have to cut around 25% staff at my grade (and others). We all have to complete a comptency based application to see if we keep our jobs. I haven't applied for a job in over 12 years and am in a complete blind panic at the moment. The stress has set Arthur off in a big way and the depo I had has all but worn off. I still haven't heard about supposedly starting Humira 5 weeks on and the nurse has always gone home by the time I try to contact her when I get in from work (TBH - haven't tried too hard as have had another cold/chesty thing). Sad Sad Confused Confused. I need to take some positive action but can't seem to find the energy.

Sorry to hear your news Julie about the job cuts at work, the very last thing you needed and not surprisingly has set the RA off. Hope you are able to get the help you need with this application.

Hope your chesty cold clears up soon, I had one that went on for a month, have anti-bio, and certainly pulled me down, and you feel ready to perhaps go further with the Humira.

Thinking of you

Julie, you did not need this at all! What support are HR putting in to help you work through the issues and make the right choices? Hope they are being proactive and offering the counselling and support needed to face these changes. It's hard enough when you're feeling well, but to be recovering from infections, waiting for new treatment to start and then have the prospect of re-applying for your job, it's bound to affect you.

Just wanted to say thinking of you and hoping that you at least start to feel a little better very soon XX Ailsa

Hi Julie,

I'm so sorry to hear what is happening where you work and I can well understand you being in a panic about having to reapply.I hope you are getting support from HR like Ailsa suggests.
I can't help with the work situation but I can help motivate you to push for the humira.
You need the humira Julie, you shouldn't have to go on suffering , so ring tomorrow and keep ringing until you get some action. Do it for Jimmy if you need motivation, he will benefit as much as you.
They have said you need humira and told you you qualify for it so why aren't they delivering? Tell them what's going on at work and if you get started on the humira you have more chance of keeping your job.
Try to rest if you can when you are not at work as all this stress is not good for you ,as you know.

Sending lots of love and hugs Julie,
Doreen xx

Hugs from me too, Julie xx

Hope u can get the humira sorted asap, this has to be your first priority,
Doreen's got a v good point - when u ring - mention work and that u need meds sorted right NOW!
Your medical team are likely to be able to support with some of your work worries too - especially as stress is the last thing this blasted condition needs,

Hope u get some good support with meds and pain management,
Keep us posted,

Take care lots of love from Liz xxxxx

I took your advice thanks ladies. By then end of the day yesterday the RA was so bad in my wrists, feet and hips (plus I had period pain Blushing ) - I just felt like a huge ball of pain. I took a break at work today to ring the Anti TNF nurse. The one I saw before is on holiday. The one I spoke to today was so helpful. She dug out my notes and phoned me back at home. It would appear that nothing has been done since I had the depo in May. My notes just said 'needs chest x-ray'!!!! The nurse has re-cheecked all my DAS scores, confirmed last x-ray results and ordered the Humira for me today. Just waiting for a letter with further instructions now ThumpUp ThumpUp ThumpUp ThumpUp .

I just wish she could fill my job application in for me LOL - Seriously though - the only positive thing I could think of to do was to book a day off on leave to do it. I know I shouldn't have to take leave to do this but it will give me some breathing space and will be well worth it if it's stops me going into the 're-deployment pool'. (Especially as there are no jobs to redeploy us to.)

Julie xx

Just keep swimming, swimming

Well done Julie, but what a shame it's taken so long to get the humira ordered! Someone obviously hasn't done their job so thank goodness you rang again.
I hope you get the humira very soon and can get started on it.
Hope you are getting a bit of rest on your day off too!

Love, Doreen xx

So pleased the Humira has been ordered, Julie. Here's hoping it comes quickly and brings long and lasting relief.

Julie, sorry missed this earlier. So glad you managed to speak to a helpful nurse, now hopefully, you will get somewhere. So awful about the work situation, it seems this sort of thing goes on everywhere now. Wishing you the best of luck with the humira and the job application too, let us know how everything goes, sending ((((hugs)))))

Sorry to hear about the work situation. Working for a charity I've spent the last few weeks undergoing audits and contract reviews as a good percentage of our income comes from public sector contracts. Three contracts worth around £half a million have already been reviewed and two of those are on very shaky ground through no fault of ours I might add.

We've already been put on notice of redundancy, wage cuts etc and have been told there's no pay rise for at least two years for those that do manage to keep their jobs.

It's no fun trying to stay sane and healthy when you're in pain and feeling low enough as it is. My sympathies are definitely with you. I hope things improve and you manage to find something soon.

Try and stay positive though, sometimes these things are a kick in the backside to make you change your life. When Rover went down some years ago nearly all my friends lost their jobs and most had worked there since leaving school. Most of them ended up in menial, low-paid jobs but a few actually saw it as an opportunity and one has now completed his teacher training and is working in a special needs school. He also volunteers at a local historical organisation and dresses as a Tudor! Once he's got a couple of years in schooling he's off to New Zealand. Although he lost around £30k in redundancy money because of the collapse (they wouldn't let him take VR - now we know why) he still saw the whole traumatic event as the thing that kicked him into doing the thing he always wanted to do.

Hope that gives you some hope. Smile
